Why is Clear Creek County pursuing broadband?

According to BroadbandUSA's 2019 report, about 84% of residents in Clear Creek County have some sort of access to the Internet--but even then it is not always reliable. Clear Creek County understands the importance of internet access to our residents, but also to the commercial and economic health of the County. Clear Creek County is currently exploring options to improving internet access and reliability for it's residents and businesses.

What barriers are residents facing?

Residents face a number of barriers when it comes to getting quick and reliable internet access.

Many residents run into the issues of limited internet availability and high costs due to limited providers, physical barriers/landscape, remote locations, and more. Some providers are unable to provide internet access to people in specific locations and often times it can be difficult to navigate the information accessible from internet providers.

How can I support the County's efforts?

Clear Creek County is currently working with the State of Colorado’s Broadband Office to create a more accurate Broadband Map by challenging the FCC's Broadband map. This map shows where Internet service is (and is not) available across the country. More information can be found here.

This map will help to determine Colorado’s share of a $42.45 billion broadband investment from the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. Input from residents will improve the accuracy of the map and result in more federal and state broadband funding targeted to the areas of Colorado that need it most.

You can help this effort by taking this 5-minute survey. Your information will not be shared with anyone other than government entities. Thank you for your time!
